If it were just a marketing invention, as some people suggest, it would already have found its way to the land of dumb campaigns and dead slogans. Instead, it's surfing the rising wave on Gartner's Application Development Hype Cycle, noted as a technology on its way to gaining wide marketplace acceptance. DSO is an acronym with legs. I believe that's because it maps so accurately to the real world needs of the device software industry.
